The Green Orb

Comfortably nestled in my living room couch I sat, reading my favourite book, "The Alien In My Room". My dog, Rusty, walked in and sat next to me. He was unusually quiet. Then I noticed, he had a strange glowing object in his mouth. What was it?

I told Rusty to drop the Orb. He obeyed immediately. After that he coughed up what looked like some greenish gold smoke. I kept the orb in a warm corner of my room. A week later I noticed that the green colour around the orb had faded and in its place was a green egg with big faced, big eyed, small bodied creature carved on it.

Rusty backed away whimpering ! I sat for a moment hesitating and wondering who these were. They looked familiar. Suddenly I knew ! They were 'ALIENS' ! I ran to the book cupboard and got out my space book and flipped through the pages frantically but found nothing. Then I remembered my Alien Book. It was a thick book with many pages. I took it out and gingerly opened it. As I looked at the picture of two aliens, they grew in size and before I knew it they were standing tall before me !

I felt like screaming, but feeling something terrible might happen if I did. I said in my calmest voice, "Hello".

"Hello", they replied, "we are looking for our egg".

"Oh", I said, and rushed to my room. First I hid Rusty, and then brought the egg and laid it carefully on the table before them, not daring to give it personally, in case I should touch his hand by mistake. One of the aliens tapped it, and it broke. Out hatched a baby alien.

"Aww" ! I said.

"Our baby", the lady alien whispered, "we were worried when we could not find our egg. Thank you for keeping it safe for us". She said I could play with the baby until they left. After a while the alien mother took the baby from my hand and the couple bid me good bye. Before they left, the lady alien gave me an alien phone, using which, I could call her up anytime.

Then they shrank back to their original size and disappeared. Wonder of wonders, they had returned to my Alien book !
